In July of 2014 KMBC 9 News' anchor Kelly Eckerman visited The Forum as it was nearing completion and filed this news report on the project.
The Forum is a 3,000 square-foot addition to Marvin Hall, home of the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design & Planning. It will contain a commons space and 120-foot lecture hall. Studio 804, the KU Department of Architecture's graduate-level design-build class, designed the building and began construction in the Fall of 2013.
The highly sustainable, heavy timber-frame addition is wrapped in an innovative ventilated facade. Western red cedar louvers will project the rooms from the sun when the building is in cooling mode. Photovoltaic panels will provide a source of renewable energy, and other features include an underfloor plenum, energy efficient LED lighting, and rainwater harvesting.
